Back to Hogwarts Day just got a little more magical. HBO has announced that Warwick Davis will reprise his role as Professor Filius Flitwick in the upcoming Harry Potter television series, marking a long-awaited homecoming for the actor who brought the beloved Charms master to life in the original films.

The reveal came as part of the annual September 1 global celebration — the date Harry and friends famously boarded the Hogwarts Express. Fans tuning into the showcase got the news that Davis, who first stepped into Flitwick’s robes more than two decades ago, will once again join the wizarding world when the series premieres in 2027.

But Davis isn’t the only new face on the roster. HBO confirmed seven more castings, expanding the magical ensemble. Among Hogwarts students, Elijah Oshin will play Dean Thomas, while Finn Stephens and William Nash are set as Slytherin stalwarts Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle. On the staff side, Sirine Saba joins as Herbology queen Professor Pomona Sprout, Richard Durden takes on the ghostly Professor Cuthbert Binns, and Bríd Brennan steps in as the ever-essential Madam Pomfrey. Over at Gringotts, Leigh Gill has been cast as the goblin Griphook.

The series, which will stream on HBO and Max, is being helmed by Francesca Gardiner (Succession, His Dark Materials) as writer and executive producer, with Mark Mylod (House of the Dragon, Succession) directing multiple episodes. The production also brings back longtime franchise stewards J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman as executive producers.

Billed as a “faithful adaptation” of the original books, the HBO series has already generated massive buzz, not just for its expansive scope — with a planned decade-long run — but for the way it promises to reintroduce the wizarding world to a new generation. The return of Davis adds a nostalgic anchor, bridging fans who grew up with the films and newcomers who will experience Hogwarts for the first time on TV.

With Harry Potter joining the likes of House of the Dragon and The Last of Us in HBO’s fantasy lineup, it’s clear the network is betting big on its next cultural phenomenon. And for fans, September 1 isn’t just about catching the train to school anymore — it’s about counting down the days until Hogwarts reopens its doors in 2027.
